Meet the punter plonking thousands on one horse everyday
Benny Scarf, aka 'Backbennywinplenny' has generated plenty of discussion on social media in recent times for his controversial punting strategy.
Benny has blown up on Instagram over the last few weeks, with his number of followers surging past 85,000 on the back of placing 5c on the last favourite of the day for each follower he's got.

While that doesn't sound like much, he's now at the point of placing bets of $4000+ on one thoroughbred horse each and every day.
We caught up with him for a chat about his punting journey and the inspiration behind his madcap methods.
1. Your page has blown up in a short period of time. What made you come up with the idea and did you think it would blow up like it has?
It was inspired by Tim Naki, the blackjack guy, as many assume. I remember I was sitting in the lounge room with my Mrs at the time and one of my best mates Whits said, 'What if you do the same thing but for the last racing favourite of the day?' They both unanimously agreed 'I think it's genius'. That's what truly made me pull the trigger, so they've had a big impact on it all. I thought it would do well but not this well, also not this quick.

2. Going back a bit, what sparked your interest in horse racing?
My interest in horse racing was sparked from a very young age. My father was a professional punter in the 70s and then packed up shop in about 2000, which drove me to do similar stuff. What really got me going is going to the races for the first time when I was 18, the theatre of it all and the money being thrown around was bizarre to me. I've been entrenched in the industry ever since.
3. Most memorable win on the punt?
Honestly, one week ago, having three and a half grand on Frigid in the last at Melbourne for day 16 of betting for every Instagram follower I have. I've never gone off like that before.
4. So are you in front doing this and what's the end game here?
Only just in front. I really didn't expect for this to blow up like it has, so I didn't have any real plan. I guess the end game is when I can't afford to do it anymore.

5. Have you owned any horses over the journey?
Never owned any, but have owned a few dogs. I'd rather invest my money wisely, like dropping five grand on random favourites.
6. Favourite track to have a punt at?
Caulfield or Moonee Valley. Very leader-biased, not sure why people complain about leader-bias. You get to put a line through half the field instantly.
7. Least favourite track?
Ascot. Not sure why, but I do nothing but get rinsed there.
8. Best horse in Australia?
Mr Brightside. Bad run of results recently but that horse is so gritty and has been so good to me over the years.
Here he comes! ðŸ-¥

9. Go to beer?
Not really a beer drinker - Big Savvy B guy. Big vodka guy. Bit of a tequila guy?
10. Best thing about the great game that is racing?
The antics you get up to after a big day on the punt.
